The 2nd Forum of Rectors of Universities of the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran

The 2nd Forum of Rectors of Universities of the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran was held on October 19−20, 2016 at the University of Tehran. The Forum was attended by 20 Russian and 13 Iranian reactors.

On October 19, the President of the Russian Rectors' Union, the Rector of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, Academician Viktor Antonovich Sadovnichy, met with the President of Rectors Summit of Leading Universities of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Rector of the University of Tehran, Professor Mahmoud Nili Ahmadabadi. The meeting was attended by the vice-rectors of the University of Tehran and the heads of the institutes.

The main topic of the conversation was the discussion of the need to create a new objective and transparent international scientific and educational rating. The main objectives of the new rating are to improve the quality of education, preserve its fundamental traditions and the social significance of universities.

The Russian rectors who came to the II Forum of Rectors of Russia and Iran visited the National Museum of Iran, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Iran, saw the venue of the Tehran Conference in 1943 and the monument to Alexander Sergeyevich Griboyedov.

On October 20, 2016, the Second Forum of Rectors of Russia and Iran was held at the University of Tehran. The Forum discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral scientific and educational cooperation. Speaking at the opening of the II Forum, the Minister of Science, Research and Technology of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Farhadi, supported the idea of creating a new International scientific and educational rating "Three University Missions: Education, Science, Society", put forward by the President of the Russian Federation, Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University, Academician V. A. Sadovnichy.

The participants of the II Forum concluded 32 agreements, 7 of which were signed by the Moscow University, including agreements on the opening of Russian Language and Culture Centers at the Shiraz Universities, University of Isfahan and University of Mashhad.
